A Florida Love Song
Sunshine and Chaos
Bums on beachside boardwalks
Bikinis and coconut sun block
Grains of loose sand hugging tan lines on the tops of feet
Mists of salty air pealing back paint
French fries dipped in frosties from Wendy’s
We know nothing of 40 ounces
We drink quarts, and tall boys in brown paper bags
Beach-bus and sunburns
Chore boy and cigarette butts
Cotton filters and tropical drinks
Loose pills wrapped in the cellophane of cigarette packs
Riding beach cruisers in flip flops
Over doses and BBQs
Fast women and slow cars
Slow men and speed boats
Shirtless in Circle K
Shoeless in Walmart
Hopeless in the dope-house
Heartless on the highway
And wishful at the bar
Sun battered skin, signs of veteran status
Transplants that take root
Tiny colorful umbrellas sprouting from plastic cups and ice
Sunshine and fucking chaos……
